Brasa vs Paprika

Paprika earned its place. For over a decade it's been the recipe manager serious home cooks recommend, and if your whole library lives there, that trust was well spent. But recipes changed — they live in TikToks, Reels, and screenshots now — and Paprika hasn't followed them there. Here's where each app genuinely wins.

Where Paprika wins

Be clear-eyed about this: Paprika's one-time pricing is genuinely rare now, and if you cook from a Windows PC or an Android phone, Brasa simply isn't an option — Brasa is Apple-native by design. Paprika also offers pantry tracking and a menu system, which Brasa doesn't have today. If Paprika already does everything you need, keep it.

Where Brasa wins

Capture from where recipes actually live now

Paprika's importer was built for the recipe-blog era. Brasa handles that era too — unlimited clean website imports on every tier — but it also reads the caption of a TikTok, a screenshot of a pinned comment, a photo of a cookbook page, or your grandmother's handwriting. When the method only exists in the video, Brasa reads the video too: narration and on-screen text are read on-device first, with a compressed clip sent for cloud-AI analysis only when the local result needs help. That's the gap that sends most people looking for a Paprika alternative.

It understands the recipe, not just stores it

Brasa's cook mode shows each step with exactly the ingredients — and amounts — that step needs, flags the "meanwhile" moments so you prep while something simmers, scales with real kitchen fractions, and estimates nutrition automatically with Brasa Plus. The combined shopping list carries that intelligence too: every item shows which planned recipes need it, so "onion, from 2 recipes" never becomes a mystery in the produce aisle.

It talks back while you cook

Say “next”, “how much butter”, or “set a timer for ten minutes” with your hands full, and Brasa Voice answers out loud in a natural neural voice that runs entirely on your device — no wake word, no cloud, no audio leaving the device.* Paprika has no voice cook mode; its steps and timers are driven by tap.

New recipes from sources you choose

Brasa's Your Sources feed follows the recipe sites and creators behind what you save, including sources found through TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. Their newest recipes appear together without an algorithm deciding what you should see, and every item keeps its original source one tap away.

Privacy that goes further than a password

Paprika's sync is a conventional cloud account. Brasa's sync is end-to-end encrypted with no account at all — your library is encrypted on your device before upload, and nobody, including us, can read it.

Switching is one export away

With Brasa Plus, Brasa reads Paprika's own export format directly. Recipes, photos, notes, and categories come across in one step, and Paprika stays untouched — run both while you decide. The full walkthrough: How to import Paprika recipes into Brasa.
